Hurray! I lost 10 pounds in a week! (Well, 9.9 according to my scale, but I’ll call it 10). I feel so much better inside and out! Lost my muffin top (sayonara!). Today, I’m going to eat normal and healthy, then go back on it for 4 days- then it’s beachside for a week.

I am a yo-yo dieter. Always trying to lose weight fast for that special event. Now, everyone knows the real way to lose weight is to change your habits slowly. But, here I am, two weeks away from a 10 day beach trip with my kids, where I’ll have to be hanging out in my bathing suit day in and day out. I need to lose 10 pounds in a hurry. So where do I turn? To my old faithful – never fails me – Cabbage Soup Diet! It promises to drop 10-17 pounds off of you in one week. But it is a rigid diet. No cheating allowed at all! Legend has it, that it was developed for overweight heart patients to lose maximum belly weight before surgery. And I am telling you – IT WORKS! I am now on day 6 and am down 8 1/2 pounds! I know it is mostly water weight, but it feels great and is the jump start I need to a more sensible weight loss plan, like Weight Watchers (which I plan to start right after this jump start). And in the short run, I’ll feel better in my bathing suit.
After seven days, if you have not cheated, you will have lost 10-17 pounds and your system will be cleansed of impurities. You will have a feeling of well-being as never before. You’ll have an abundance of energy. You can do the diet again, but take a few days off in-between, eating normal and healthy. Take a multivitamin every day.
The diet is fast, fat-burning and the secret is that you will burn more calories than you take in. This diet does not lend itself to drinking any alcoholic beverages at any time because of the removal of fat buildup in your system. Don’t drink alcohol until at least 24 hours off the diet. While on the diet, also NO carbonated drinks, including diet soda. No sugar or artificial sweetener either in the tea or coffee. Eat as much soup as you want, whenever you feel hungry. The more you eat, the more you lose. On one of the meat days, you can have broiled skinless chicken or fish. Also, if you excercise, you may feel light headed or extra hungry- be sure to have plenty of the soup and water. Fat Burning Cabbage Soup
is the one I have stuck to for many years now.
Here is the recipe and instructions:
Basic Fat Burning Soup
6 large onions (I use leeks)
1 can (28 oz) crushed or diced tomatoes
1 bottle (64 oz) V-8 juice (I like the spicy)
1 large cabbage
2 green peppers
1 bunch celery
2 pkgs. Lipton onion soup mix
4 cups water (I add two chicken bullion cubes)
Season with salt, pepper, curry, parsley, hot sauce – any herbs or seasonings are allowed.
Cut vegetables in small to medium pieces, add to large stock pot, add tomatoes and cover with V-8 and water. Boil fast for 10 minutes. Then simmer until vegetables are tender. This soup can be eaten any time you are hungry. Eat as much as you want, whenever you want. This soup will not add calories. The more you eat, the more you lose. All week, the only beverages allowed are black coffee, tea and water, no sweeteners. And here is the instructions for each day of the week:
DAY ONE: You can eat the soup and all fruits except bananas. Cantaloupe and watermelon are especially lower in calories. Eat only the soup and fruits.
DAY TWO: You can eat the soup and all vegetables. Eat until you are stuffed with all the fresh, cooked, raw, or canned vegetables you want. Leafy green vegetables are especially good. Stay away from beans, peas and corn. At dinner time, reward yourself with a baked potato and butter.
DAY THREE: Eat all the soup, fruits and veggies you want. No baked potato. If you have followed the diet and not cheated, you will have lost 5-7 pound by now.
DAY FOUR: Eat soup, bananas and non-fat milk. Eat as many as three bananas and as much milk as you want. Bananas are high in calories and carbohydrates and so is the milk, but on this day your body will need the potassium and carbs, protein and calcium to lessen your cravings for sweets. (Personal note: I HATE milk, so this day was hard for me. I will NOT drink milk, so I added it in my day by making a coffee smoothie and a banana smoothie. I also put some of the soup in a blender with non-fat milk and basil and had a creamy tomato soup-like version of the soup. It was good and a nice change.)
DAY FIVE: Beef and tomatoes. You may have 10-20 ounces of beef and a can of tomatoes or as many as six fresh tomatoes, plus the soup. Try to drink at lest 6-8 glasses of water this day to wash away the uric acid in your body. Have at least one bowl of soup.
DAY SIX: Beef and veggies. Eat to your heart’s content of the beef and vegetables. You can have 2 or three steaks with green leafy vegetables. No baked potato. Have the soup at least once.
DAY SEVEN: Brown rice, unsweetend fruit juice, vegetables. Again, stuff, stuff, stuff yourself. Be sure to have the soup at least once.
